Mount Robson Provincial Park Mt. Robson (3954m) is the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies, and the second highest mountain entirely within B.C. It is located within Mount Robson Provincial Park, and is part of the Rainbow Range. Early indigenous people referred to the mountain as “Yuhhai- has-kun” translated “The Mountain of the Spiral Road”, reflective of its “layered” appearance. Some have referred to Mt. Robson as “Cloud Cap Mountain”, as its upper profile is usually covered with clouds. It is widely believed that the mountain was named after Colin Robertson, who worked for the North West Company and the Hudson Bay Company in the 1800’s. However, there is an alternate belief- that it was named after John Robson, Premier of B. C. from 1889-1892. Mt. Robson Provincial Park, established in 1913, was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1990. Waters from Mt. Robson are the main contributors to the source of the Fraser River, the largest salmon-bearing river in the world.
